JOB PURPOSE:

Develop and instruct Core courses at Stanford Online High School (OHS).

THE STANFORD ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL

The Stanford Online High School at Stanford University is an independent school for academically talented students in grades 7-12. Founded in 2006 as a three-year high school, and subsequently expanded to include grades 7–9, Stanford OHS is accredited by the Western Association of School and Colleges. CORE DUTIES*:

  • Prepare for class, lead discussion sections, record lectures, hold office hours, and assist students in using course materials.
  • Monitor student progress, give feedback, and discuss performance with students, parents, instructional supervisor, counseling staff, and administrative staff.
  • Assist with development and revision of curricula.
  • Develop and teach residential and non-residential summer courses and remote in-person instructed courses.
  • Serve as advisor to student clubs and activities, lead outreach or interest sessions, and serve defined roles in the broader OHS and/or SPCS program communities.
  • Serve on committees within OHS, SPCS, or its programs.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Master's degree (or equivalent course work) in subject area relevant to that being taught by instructor. Ph.D. strongly preferred. One year experience teaching at the high school/college level, or equivalent. 

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.  All candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Facility with teaching traditional and online courses.
  • Proficiency using computer applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Certifications and Licenses:

None

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone.
  • Frequently grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand; occasionally sort/file paperwork.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl; Must be able to conduct real-time voice-video seminars and spend 15-20 hours per week in front of a computer screen.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require working early mornings or late evenings to meet student scheduling requirements.
  • May require travel to remote sites to conduct programs.
  • Valid US passport for international travel.
