Job description |
Penn State’s Rock Ethics Institute (http://rockethics.psu.edu/) seeks applicants for an Assistant Director. The Rock Ethics Institute is a vibrant center promoting interdisciplinary and engaged ethics research and curricular enhancement, and it supports collaborations across all of the University’s colleges. The Assistant Director position is a full-time, non-tenure line appointment, starting August 2017. AOS/AOC open, but with a particular interest in ethics, applied philosophy, and public/community engaged philosophy. We especially invite candidates whose work contributes to one of the Institute’s current research initiatives: agricultural and food ethics; bioethics and public health; climate and sustainability ethics; critical philosophy of race; moral agency and moral development; democracy and human rights; engineering, technology, and ethics; gender and sex equity; religion and spirituality; and restorative justice. Duties include overseeing Institute activities, including conferences and events, lecture series, student and faculty fellows programs, awards committees, and search committees; serving as a liaison between Institute staff and directors; developing and leading interdisciplinary ethics workshops and trainings for faculty, graduate students, and community partners; overseeing assessment procedures and preparing bi-annual reports; and representing the Institute on university committees and in various capacities with faculty, students, staff, and the public. Further duties may include grant writing; supervising postdoctoral fellows, graduate research assistants, and undergraduate interns; and oversight of communications, publicity, and production of print and digital media. The Assistant Director is expected to maintain an active research profile in one or more of the Institute’s research initiatives, to participate actively in Institute-sponsored events and research activities, and to build collaborations with relevant Penn State scholarly communities. The initial appointment is for two years, with opportunities for renewal by mutual agreement. Ph.D. or relevant professional degree required. Salary competitive. |
