Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) occasionally has the need to hire One Year Lecturer to teach in its Bachelor’s of Philosophy program. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the program, advising students, and participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university or local community as needed. Candidates must be able to teach lower division philosophy courses such as Introduction to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Religious Studies, and Applied Ethics, especially engineering ethics. The area of specialization is open. An MA in Philosophy is required by the start date, although a Ph.D. is preferred. Application materials should include a letter of interest addressing the content of this advertisement, UTRGV employment application, a current CV, graduate transcripts, evidence of a potential for teaching excellence, and three names of reference. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a Hispanic serving institution, opened their doors in Fall 2015. UTRGV was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 and brings together the assets and resources of UT Pan American and UT Brownsville. The new university is home to a School of Medicine which opened in 2016. UTRGV is in the middle of one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, the southern tip of Texas known as the Rio Grande Valley. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV’s guiding principles (http://www.utrgv.edu/oaa/_files/resources/admin-assessment/guiding-principles-ut-rio-grande-valley.pdf), which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.
