Job description

Required qualifications

We require a master’s degree in Philosophy or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours of philosophical study.  We require teaching experience as the instructor of record, evidence of excellence in teaching Philosophy, and excellent written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

PhD in Philosophy is preferred.  Evidence of excellence in teaching courses in Philosophy of Religion and Medical Ethics is preferred.  We prefer candidates with demonstrated success in teaching diversity content in the curriculum. We prefer candidates with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in and beyond the department; effective interpersonal skills; effective classroom management skills; excellent oral presentation and communication skills; and the demonstrated ability to engage and inspire students, including non-majors.

 The University of Dayton, with a College of Arts and Sciences and professional schools of Business Administration, Education and Health Sciences, Engineering, and Law has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,000 undergraduate students. All undergraduate students take twelve hours of philosophy and religious studies. Interviews will be conducted via teleconferencing. We are seeking an experienced successful master teacher of philosophy for a permanently funded position. The typical teaching load is eight undergraduate courses per academic year (four per semester), including introductory, general education, and upper level offerings. Some summer teaching may be available. The Philosophy Department currently has seventeen tenure-line faculty and four lecturers and offers strong major and minor programs. We are a pluralistic department, open to many philosophical traditions.
