Job description

This is a short-term job opportunity (requiring a PhD) in the ethics of violence and in global justice. We are looking for a relief teacher for not quite four months and would pay a lump sum of 130,000HKD (that is around 14,500 Euro or 16,600 US Dollar); there is room for negotiation, though. Housing is not provided.
The relief teacher would have to teach four courses: a course in our taught postgraduate program “Master in International and Public Affairs,” and three courses in our undergraduate program.
The first undergraduate course is entitled “Thinking about Global Ethics” and covers topics like universalism vs. relativism, human rights, poverty relief, cosmopolitanism, global economic justice, immigration, and global environmental challenges. The second undergraduate course, “On the Ethics of Violence,” covers topics like self-defense, necessity, punishment, war, torture, terrorism. The third undergraduate course is entitled “Special Topics in Political Theory,” but it will be entirely on just war theory. So will be the postgraduate course entitled “War and Armed Conflicts: The Philosophical Issues.” The syllabi for all four courses will be provided, and the relief teacher can somewhat adapt them to his/her preferences.
There will be 12 sessions for each course (one session per week), the graduate course is 3 hours, the undergraduate courses not quite 2 hours per session. The relief teacher will normally not have to teach tutorials. (This only changes if the number of participants in one of the undergraduate courses drops below a certain threshold. This is extraordinarily unlikely and has in fact never happened with any of these courses.)
Applicants with a publication background in the ethics of violence are preferred. Early applications might also have a significant advantage. Please send your CV, including a publication list.
