Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at the University of Victoria invites applications for a tenure track, Assistant Professor position to begin 1 July 2018. Area of specialization: ancient philosophy. Area of competence: open, but broad philosophical interests are assets. Duties will include research, undergraduate and graduate instruction and administrative service. The successful applicant will have the potential to be a superior researcher and an excellent teacher. Requirements Applicants should hold a PhD in Philosophy by time of appointment. Ideal candidates will have begun publishing and will have a well-articulated research and publication plan. The Department seeks a candidate who can offer undergraduate and graduate courses in ancient philosophy including courses on the work of Plato. Knowledge of ancient Greek and or Latin is an asset. Candidates should also be able to offer a course in introduction to philosophy that covers a broad range of topics and diverse figures in the history of philosophy. Candidates should supply evidence of their approach to pedagogy and their preparedness to teach excellent courses. In addition, the successful candidate should be able to supervise MA and PhD students in ancient philosophy and should be able assist the supervision of students in other areas of philosophy.
