The Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a two-year Contractually Limited Term appointment (CLTA) in Ethics, with a particular emphasis on Biomedical and Applied Ethics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning on July 1, 2018 and ending on June 30, 2020.
Candidates must hold a PhD in Philosophy or a closely related field by the date of appointment, or shortly thereafter. Candidates must have broad research interests within the field of Biomedical and Applied Ethics.
The candidate’s research will focus on Ethics, especially Biomedical and Applied Ethics broadly conceived. The candidate must have an emerging record of scholarly accomplishments and will provide evidence of excellence in research demonstrated by publications in leading academic journals and/or academic presses, or a research pipeline that is at a high international level, presentations at significant conferences, a strong research dossier submitted as part of the application, and strong letters of reference by referees of high international standing. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program.
Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching can be demonstrated by strong endorsements from referees, teaching accomplishments highlighted as part of the application, teaching evaluations, and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. The successful candidate must be able to teach a wide range of courses in Biomedical and Applied Ethics, from the introductory to advanced levels.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
