Job description |
UNIVERSITY OF UTAH, SALT LAKE CITY, UT – POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW: The Department of Philosophy seeks to fill our department’s Sterling M. McMurrin Postdoctoral Fellowship. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to a campus-wide initiative on “Research Reproducibility.” That may include, but not be limited to, work on scientific reproducibility, the replication crisis, scientific fraud, statistical methodologies, research ethics, or other relevant topics. This will involve engaging with interdisciplinary working groups on this topic that includes researchers from the Health Sciences, Psychology, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Library Sciences, etc. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach a one-credit, one-week course in June 2019 that coincides with an annual workshop on “Research Reproducibility” (co-sponsored with the University’s Eccles Health Sciences Library and Senior Vice President for Research). AOS is open, though applicants are asked to address how they will engage with the campus-wide initiative on “Research Reproducibility” in their cover letter. Otherwise, we are excited for applicants that are eager to be an active part of the research life of our program. This is a one-year position, starting July 1, 2018, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The Department values its top-ranking in terms of percent of women appointed in tenure line positions (See: women-in-philosophy.org), and is committed to pursuing the benefits that such inclusiveness can bring to philosophical inquiry and the classroom. We enthusiastically welcome applications from candidates who share these values, and who possess a strong commitment to creating and maintaining an inclusive research environment that welcomes and supports a diverse group of researchers. Applicants should provide a CV; cover letter; research statement; writing sample; and at least three letters of recommendation. Review of files will begin November 1, though files are welcome until the position is filled.
