The University has a comprehensive range of study programmes and research disciplines spread across 10 faculties and over 140 academic departments and institutes/centres. Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities (Philosophy) (Ref.: 201701341)

Applications are invited for tenure-track appointment as Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the School of Humanities (Philosophy), to commence on September 1, 2018, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.  Exceptionally outstanding candidates at the Associate Professor/Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in philosophy, with Asian philosophy as an area of specialization. The appointee is expected to develop a vigorous, independent research programme, to excel in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and to handle the usual non-teaching duties. Total teaching load will be three to four courses per year, including introductory first-year courses. Information about the Department can be obtained at http://philosophy.hku.hk. Enquiries may be sent to Dr. Chris Fraser, Chairperson, Department of Philosophy (e-mail: [email protected]).

A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, together with annual leave and medical benefits.  Salary range is currently HK$645,900-$998,280 per annum for Assistant Professor, HK$847,500-$1,346,940 for Associate Professor, and HK$1,148,640-$1,653,180 for Professor. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.

Applicants should apply on-line at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/9906, position ID: HKU-Philosophy-OR.  Applications should include (1) an anonymized sample of written work; (2) an anonymized research statement, indicating what rank the candidate is applying for; (3) an anonymized list of the journals and anthologies in which the candidate has published articles and publishers of the candidate’s books, if any; (4) an up-to-date C.V.; (5) teaching portfolio; and (6) at least three letters of reference submitted through AcademicJobsOnline. To facilitate blind review, the Department requests that items (1), (2), and (3) above be anonymized by removing any identifying information, such as name and institutional affiliation.  Further details can be obtained at http://jobs.hku.hk. Shortlisted candidates may be invited to attend an interview.  Closes November 24, 2017.

The University thanks applicants for their interest, but advises that only candidates shortlisted for interviews will be notified of the application result.
