Lecturer in Philosophy (Teaching and Research)

The Philosophy Programme in the School of Humanities seeks to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Philosophy. We seek a researcher with a strong record of publications who shows promise of leadership in grant applications, building external networks, and attracting postgraduate students. The successful candidate will teach on undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in philosophy and will contribute to collaborative teaching and research initiatives within the School of Humanities. While applications are welcome from individuals in any area of specialisation, we seek someone who can contribute to teaching in continental philosophy and interdisciplinary teaching within Humanities. The Programme has particular teaching needs in aesthetics (philosophy of art, literature, or film), gender, and political philosophy.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and high-quality publications commensurate with career stage. In appointing at Grade 8, we seek candidates who have already held a university post and have substantial experience of university teaching and academic administration.

Purpose of the Post:

• To deliver high quality teaching in philosophy.
• To produce high quality research publications, grant applications, projects and collaborations.
• To contribute to the administration of the Programme and the School.

Principal duties:

• Design and delivery of a range of undergraduate modules as specified by the Dean and Programme Convener, including module documentation, lectures, seminars and tutorials.
• Teaching and supervision of postgraduate students.
• Publishing research papers and monographs.
• Leading and collaborating on research grant applications and projects.
• Administration for the Programme and the School as specified by the Dean and Programme Convener.

This is a permanent post. Salary is £37,012 to £44,166 pa on Grade 8.
