Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position.

Description of Responsibilities:

AOS (Area of Specialization) and AOC (Area of Competency) open. The Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy will teach courses in the AOS and AOC, with either a global perspective or incorporating issues of diversity. The department also has needs in either epistemology and/or some area of the history of philosophy. Normal teaching responsibilities will be one large course and two smaller courses per semester. Additionally, the VAP of Philosophy will have administrative responsibilities within the department and the university at large, including student advising for philosophy majors.

In addition, this position will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD In philosophy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience
  • Research accomplishments (such as publications)
  • Clear research goals (works in progress and under submission)
