Assistant or Associate Professor in Bioethics and Humanities The Department of Medical Humanities and Social Sciences at the Florida State University College of Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in bioethics and humanities at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates should hold either a clinical professional degree (MD, MSN, DNP, etc.) with additional training in bioethics or clinical ethics, or a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (philosophy, religious studies, anthropology, sociology, history, literary studies, etc.). A tenure-track or non-tenure-track position is available. Essential qualifications include interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching medical students, and bioethics curriculum development. Other desirable qualifications include experience or interest in clinical ethics consultation; and scholarly or teaching interests in rural health, health disparities, justice in healthcare resource distribution, race and medicine, and related topics. Interest or experience in pursuing external funding is highly desirable. Opportunities for collaborative work exist with the new Center for Innovative Collaboration in Medicine and Law, the Center for Medicine and Public Health, and other units across the university. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary faculty in bioethics, philosophy, history, psychology, epidemiology, and medical Spanish, who engage in research and teaching of medical students and residents as well as undergraduate and graduate students. The FSU College of Medicine (COM) aims to provide community-based medical education that emphasizes the biopsychosocial model, primary care, and care for underserved populations. The COM is located on the campus of Florida State University and is characterized by a collaborative culture across departments, with the FSU faculty in other sectors of the university, and across regional COM campuses in Tallahassee, Sarasota, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Ft. Pierce, and Pensacola. A clinical research network is currently being developed in association with the regional campuses involving the 1,500 clinical faculty members who practice throughout the state of Florida. Consideration of candidates and interviewing will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The salary is nationally competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
