Job description |
The School of Arts and Humanities at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Philosophy, with a focus in Continental Philosophy and an emphasis on ethics and/or social or political philosophy – preferably from a Feminist or Critical Theory perspective. Candidates should be able to offer a range of graduate and undergraduate courses in philosophy, including offerings within the university’s core curriculum (e.g. Introduction to Philosophy, History of Philosophy) or other service courses (e.g., Bioethics, Philosophy of Technology, et al.). Appointment will begin August 1, 2018. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to publishing, undergraduate and graduate teaching, interdisciplinary education and research, and professional academic service. The School offers an interdisciplinary graduate program (MA, PhD) built on three interrelated areas: Literature, History of Ideas, and Aesthetic Studies. The undergraduate program offers degrees in Literary Studies, History, Philosophy, and Visual and Performing Arts. The academic philosophy of the School emphasizes the fusion of critical with creative thinking as well as linkages among various modes of knowledge and artistic expression. We are particularly interested in candidates who can make connections with one or more of the School’s research Centers and Institutes, including the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies; the Center for Values in Medicine, Science and Technology; and the Center for Translation Studies. Located in suburban Dallas (Richardson), UT Dallas is a dynamic, growing research institution with a diverse student body (ca. 27,000) and a strong research faculty. Salary is competitive.
