The Philosophy Department at Suffolk University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position for July 1, 2018 (pending final budgetary approval). Exceptional candidates may be considered for Associate Professor. The successful applicant will have a role helping to direct the Politics, Philosophy and Economics major, as well as teaching ethics and social/political philosophy. AOS: Ethics, Social/ Political Philosophy. AOC: History of Ethics and one or more applied fields such as Philosophy of Race and/or Gender; Environmental Ethics; Bio-/Medical Ethics; Philosophy of Law; Philosophy and Economics; Philosophy and Technology; etc. The department emphasizes an historical approach to philosophy as a foundation for applied issues.
A Ph.D. in Philosophy is required by the time of appointment. The position includes a 3/2 teaching load, in addition to service duties, such as advising and service on departmental and College committees. Candidates should provide evidence of teaching excellence and experience providing high quality instruction to a diverse student body. The successful candidate would also have the opportunity to develop courses in areas of Suffolk's Core Curriculum, such as Seminar for Freshmen, Perspectives, and Creativity and Innovation. Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration, service learning, internships, or policy-related work is desirable.
