Job description |
The Smith Institute for Political Economy and Philosophy at Chapman University seeks up to three two-year research associates (postdoctoral scholars), beginning in August, 2018. Candidates with strengths in political philosophy, philosophy of economics, and philosophy of social sciences are particularly welcome, but we will seriously consider any candidate interested in pursuing work that cuts across disciplines of social sciences and humanities more broadly. The Smith Institute houses scholars from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, including philosophy, economics, and literature. Its mission is to reintegrate the study of the humanities and economics, and to combine research and undergraduate education. Members of the institute are encouraged to pursue these aims by teaching innovative classes. Research associates will be expected to teach one course per year. Candidates should have received their PhD prior to beginning the position and should address in their cover letter how their research and teaching fit with the mission of the Smith Institute. We seek candidates with the ability to generate and publish research of the highest quality. Review of applications will begin on December 1st, and continue on a rolling basis until March 1st, 2018 or until all positions are filled. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, writing sample, and the names and email addresses of three references. In addition, please arrange to have one letter of reference submitted on your behalf by email or mail. Please address all materials to Samuel Nordrum, Smith Institute for Political Economy and Philosophy, Chapman University, One University Drive, Orange CA 92866, USA. Applications and inquiries can be submitted via the Chapman University website here: https://chapman.peopleadmin.com/postings/12899, or via email to Samuel Nordrum: [email protected].
