Job description

The University of Pittsburgh’s Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for three, two-year Dietrich School Diversity Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Humanities, beginning August 2018. Recognizing that intellectual vitality and diversity are inseparable, the Dietrich School’s Postdoctoral Fellowship program focuses on the purpose of enhancing diversity among the School’s research and instructional ranks, and among faculty in the nation’s educational landscape. Diversity of experience, composition, and intellectual fields increases creativity, innovation, and the exchange of ideas and ultimately advances the academic mission of the University.

There are many ways in which outstanding scholars might contribute to the intellectual vibrancy, cultural competency, and diverse excellence of the Humanities at Pitt, including scholars who, through their experience, leadership, research, teaching, and/or service, have demonstrated a likelihood to enhance the cultural competency, diversity, and excellence of the academic community at Pitt and the educational landscape nationally; scholars from populations historically underrepresented in the academy; scholars whose research focuses on diversity, such as areas relating to Native American, African/Africana/African-American, Asian/Asian American, Ethnic, Latino/a or Latin American Studies; gender, socio-economic inequality, LGBTQIA+, religion, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, etc.

Fellows will teach one course each semester, advance their scholarly work, and participate in the academic and intellectual communities of the units with which they are affiliated and across the Dietrich School.  Within the Dietrich School, rich opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange are available in the Humanities Center, the World History Center, and in a number of vibrant multidisciplinary programs. We invite applications from qualified candidates who have satisfactorily completed all requirements for the PhD degree, including any oral defense, by March 1, 2018. Individuals who completed all such requirements before June 1, 2016 are ineligible.

In either case, an email notification will be sent to the designated address with instructions for uploading letters to our system by February 23, 2018.

Any offer of employment is contingent upon having the PhD degree in-hand prior to the appointment, acquiring all proper visas (for international fellows), and certification of English language proficiency. The University of Pittsburgh is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and values equality of opportunity, human dignity and diversity. EEO/AA/M/F/Vets/Disabled.
