Career Development Fellow in Practical Ethics (EXPIRED)

Applications are invited for a full-time Career Development Fellow to lead and teach course modules for the newly established MSt. in Practical Ethics, and carry out associated duties, including syllabus preparation and assisting with student admissions.The Fellow will also conduct collaborative and independent research in practical ethics and in particular responsibility, alongside other general duties, and report to Professor Julian Savulescu and Associate Professor Guy Kahane.

The weighting of teaching-related and research duties will vary over the course of the year, but the Fellow will spend half his/her work time each year conducting research.

This post is fixed-term for 2 years from the date of appointment and the Fellow will be located in central Oxford at the Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics, which is part of the Faculty of Philosophy.

The Fellow is required to have received the degree of PhD (or equivalent) in philosophy with specialisation in practical ethics or other relevant area of moral philosophy. Also essential are: excellent teaching skills and relevant experience in teaching ethics and sufficient subject knowledge to develop course materials; excellent research skills in practical ethics and an outstanding research record.

Whilst the role is a Grade 8 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at Grade 7 (£31,604 - £38,833 p.a.) with the
responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate
