Assistant Professor

The Chair of Metaphysics in the Faculty of Philosophy at LMU Munich invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (E3) with an emphasis on the History of Philosophy, especially the History of Metaphysics and Natural Philosophy. This is a fixed term (non-tenure track) postdoctoral position that runs for three years, with a possible extension to an additional three years thereafter. The starting date is October 1, 2024.

Candidates are required to have a doctorate in philosophy, with an AOS in the History of Philosophy and in Metaphysics. An additional AOC in Philosophy of Science is welcome. The ability to lecture in German is preferred.

The position comes with a course load of 2 courses per semester (5 Semesterwochenstunden), which will include offerings at both the Bachelors and Masters level. In addition, the candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program in the History of Philosophy, as well as participate in the group activities of the Metaphysics Chair. This will include some administrative tasks, such as the organization of workshops and reading groups.
