Job description

The Department of Religion and Philosophy at Young Harris College invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor, with specialization in one or more of the following: Asian Religions, Islamic Thought, Social and Political Philosophy, or Ethics. Special consideration will be given to candidates with additional competency in one or more of the following: Indigenous American Religions, New Religious Movements, Philosophy of Law, or Applied Ethics. (Ethnographic and material culture based approaches to religion are especially welcome.) This position helps support a burgeoning department serving both a Religious Studies major and a Philosophy minor as well as a strong Core curriculum presence. We are looking for someone enthusiastic about opportunities to teach outside their area(s) of expertise to help cover our curriculum needs. Our goal is to maintain and develop our critical and rigorous Religious Studies and Philosophy programs. We have immediate teaching needs in some combination of the following: World Religions, Ancient and Medieval Philosophy, Asian Scriptures, and/or Theories of Religion.Future course offerings will be scheduled in consultation with the candidate.

The ideal candidate will have earned their Ph.D. in Religious Studies or Philosophy (or related field) before the date of employment and should possess a strong commitment to teaching in an undergraduate, liberal arts curriculum and an active research agenda. (ABD will also be considered.) This full-time, tenure-track position carries a 4/4 teaching load of both service and specialized courses.
