Position description
The Biomedical Ethics Unit, Faculty of Medicine, McGill University, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Bioethics.

Biomedical Ethics is situated within McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and will be linked to the future School of Population and Global Health. Additional information about the Biomedical Ethics Unit is available at: https://www.mcgill.ca/biomedicalethicsunit/

If the successful candidate satisfies the specific eligibility conditions of the program, the candidate may be supported by the University for nomination to a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Bioethics, which provides protected time for research within a full-time academic appointment.

Tier 2 Chairs are for emerging researchers (individuals who are no more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree). However, career interruptions (e.g. maternity or parental leave, extended sick leave, clinical training, family care, etc.) may be taken into consideration using the Tier 2 justification process to review the candidate’s eligibility. Potential applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree with career interruptions may contact the institution to have their eligibility reviewed through the Tier 2 justification process. The eligibility conditions for the CRC chairs are described at http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/program-programme/nomination-mise_en_candidature-eng.aspx#s3

Job Duties
The candidate will be expected to develop a funded and impactful program of research, teach within the ethics and health law component of the medical faculty, supervise graduate students, and maintain active engagement with health practitioners and policymakers.

The candidate is expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education requirements
Ph.D. or Professional Degree in a Bioethics-related discipline is required. Research interests in some aspect of clinical medicine, experience or interest in clinical ethics, a record of publication in influential Bioethics venues and effective communication skills with health professionals are assets.
Cross-appointments with other faculties or departments can be arranged depending upon the candidate’s disciplinary background, record of publication, and previous teaching experience. Facility with French language is an asset.

Candidates who do not satisfy the CRC eligibility criteria for a Tier 2 chair are nonetheless invited to apply for the position.
