Qualifications: Ph.D. in Philosophy prior to appointment, a strong teaching record, and evidence of the ability to publish and engage in professional activities in the area of specialization. Area of Specialization: Philosophy of Technology. People whose work in other areas (e.g., philosophy of science, aesthetics, epistemology, metaphysics, and applied ethics, such as cybersecurity and bioethics) intersects and seriously engages with issues in technology are encouraged to apply. The department welcomes candidates who pursue cross-tradition engagement in doing philosophy of technology. Area of Competence: Open. The department has strong needs in history of philosophy, logic, ethical theory, and professional ethics (e.g., business ethics, bioethics). The department welcomes expertise in phenomenology.

Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities: In addition to courses in area of specialization, the candidate will be expected to teach general education courses that could include Introduction to Philosophy; Logic and Critical Reasoning; Moral Issues; Asian Philosophy; Professional and Business Ethics; and Philosophy of Science. Scholarship, committee work, and department service are expected. The current teaching load is 3 courses per semester (approximately 120 students per term) with service expectations at department, college, and university levels. Previous collective bargaining agreements (including that in force through 2020) have offered probationary faculty a reduced teaching load for their first two years on the tenure track.

Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Starting Date: August, 2019
