Job description |
The Department of Philosophy is searching for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor of philosophy. AOS: logic, philosophy of math, philosophy of language, and/or philosophy of mind. AOC: philosophy of computer science. We are seeking someone engaged in investigating philosophical issues at one or more of the intersections of computer science and the areas of philosophy indicated in the AOS. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the new B.S. in Computer Science and Philosophy within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Target start date: August 16, 2019. Qualifications: Ph.D. in philosophy or a related discipline, appropriate background in AOS and AOC, and evidence of ability to contribute significantly to the department and discipline through both research and teaching. Candidates with superior qualifications who will complete all the Ph.D. requirements within the first appointment year may be appointed at the rank of Instructor. After the Ph.D. requirement is met, the appointment will be changed to Assistant Professor. Duties: normally two courses per semester, one introductory or intermediate and one advanced; independent study and thesis supervision; committee assignments; establish and maintain an active and independent research program. Some summer teaching possible. Salary: competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
