Senior lecturer (førstelektor) in philosophy (EXPIRED)

The successful candidate must be able to teach in a Scandinavian language upon taking up the position.

A permanent position of senior lecturer (SKO 1198) in philosophy is available at the Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas at the University of Oslo.

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oslo is currently establishing an interdisciplinary arena, Philosophy and the Sciences (official starting date in mid 2019). The aim of Philosophy and the Sciences is to promote stronger ties between the humanities and the sciences by integrating perspectives from each approach into the research and teaching of the other. In this way, we seek to facilitate a two-way flow of ideas between the humanities and the sciences, especially linguistics, psychology, biology and the life sciences, physics, computer science, and mathematics.

For the duration of the Philosophy and the Sciences project (2019-2024), the advertised position will be directly associated with the Philosophy and the Sciences project, with a special responsibility for cooperation with UiO:Life Science. The successful candidate is expected to teach within the project’s remit, help organize and coordinate project activities, liaise with UiO:Life Science, supervise PhD candidates, participate in teaching at all levels (including Examen Philosophicum), and carry out administrative duties in accordance with the needs of the department. The successful candidate must have expertise in the philosophy of biology/life science and/or in the moral and political aspects of science.

The vacancy is a teaching position, with 75 % teaching and dissemination work, 19 % academic development work, and 6 % administration. For the duration of the project (2019-2024), there will be a reduction in teaching commensurate with organizational work done for the project. After the conclusion of the project, the lecturer will join the regular teaching staff and teach for Examen Philosophicum and the philosophy programme.
