Job description

UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON, DAYTON, OH. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a Lecturer position, beginning August 16, 2019.  This is an annually renewable non-tenure track position.

Description

The typical teaching load is eight undergraduate courses per academic year (four per semester), including Introduction to Philosophy and one or more courses in professional (business, medical, and/or engineering) ethics as needed for non-majors.  Some summer teaching may be available.  This position includes a potential opportunity to engage with an endowment-funded program in professional ethics. 

We are a large, collegial philosophy department, currently numbering nineteen tenure-line faculty and eight lecturers, and offering strong major and minor programs. We are racially, religiously, and ethnically diverse, and we embrace a pluralistic outlook, recognizing the value of a variety of philosophical traditions both western and non-western, and including feminist philosophy.  

Required qualifications

We require a master’s degree in philosophy, or a master’s degree in a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours of philosophical study.  We require experience teaching philosophy as the instructor of record at the university level.  We require excellent written communication skills.

All undergraduate students take twelve hours of philosophy and religious studies.
