Job description

The Department of Philosophy of Georgetown University seeks to fill a senior position with a scholar whose philosophical research is constructively engaged with Catholic intellectual traditions.  The area of the search is otherwise open.    We welcome applications both from scholars who view their work as primarily historical in focus and from those who do not.

We aim to fill this position at the level of a distinguished chair, but encourage applications from outstanding associate-level scholars. The course load is 2-2; teaching will be at both the graduate and the undergraduate levels and will include graduate supervision.

Georgetown University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer fully dedicated to achieving a diverse faculty and staff. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply and will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity and expression, and sexual orientation), disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Candidates should send a letter of interest, a current CV, and contact information for three referees. Letters of interest should indicate the candidate’s engagement with Catholic traditions of inquiry. Materials received by February 15, 2019 are guaranteed full consideration, but we will consider all applications received until the position is filled. Application materials, and any inquiries about the position, may be directed to the search committee chair, Mark Murphy, at: McDevittChairSearch@georgetown.edu.
