Assistant Professor of Philosophy (EXPIRED)

Southern Utah University seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy, AOS: open, AOC: open. The position is a nine month contract. It includes teaching at a 4/4 load, research, service to the university, and service to the profession. Applicants should provide a cover letter, evidence of excellent teaching ability, a one-page statement of teaching, and a one-page description of current and future research plans. SUU has a minor (about 15 students) and a major (over 50 students) in philosophy. We currently have two faculty members in philosophy, one specializing in ancient and the other in modern. Applicants must have a Ph.D. at the start of the fall semester, 2019. Southern Utah University is a comprehensive regional university.

General Duties include:
1. Teaching responsibilities include all levels of undergraduate philosophy courses.
2. Participate actively in the recruitment and retention of new majors and minors, which may include the organization of extra-curricular activies.
3. Student advising and mentoring.
4. Collaborate with current faculty in program development.
5. Participate in programmatic, departmental, college and university service.
6. Make scholarly contributions to the discipline. 
7. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in Philosophy by August 1, 2019, and will be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the craft of teaching philosophy.
