Job description

Instructor/Assistant Professor of Philosophy, the Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nazarbayev University

The Department of History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nazarbayev University (hereinafter - NU) in Astana, Kazakhstan invites applications for two positions in Philosophy. AOS and AOC are open, but the successful candidate will be required to contribute to a team-taught introductory Ethics course. The successful candidate may also be asked to offer courses based on their research interests.

We expect to appoint either two instructors or one instructor and an assistant professor. Candidates for an instructor position should have an MA degree in Philosophy or a related field and will be able to demonstrate potential for teaching excellence. The standard teaching load for instructors is 4+4. Applicants for an assistant professor position will be expected to demonstrate potential for excellence in research, teaching, and service. Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching classes (teaching load is 2+2 with TA support for large classes), curriculum and program development, and research.

These positions will available from August 2019, pending budgetary approval. Contracts are for a period of three years and are renewable upon a positive review.

The History, Philosophy, and Religious Studies department includes 15 members and offers a major in History and minors in both History and in Philosophy & Religious Studies. Faculty in Philosophy publish actively in leading international journals.
