The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Groningen is a vibrant, international community of excellent researchers and teachers. It consistently receives the highest evaluations both for research and for teaching among philosophy departments in The Netherlands. The Faculty has three departments: History of Philosophy, Theoretical Philosophy, and Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy. In September 2017, the Faculty started a Master's Programme in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and established a Centre for PPE that aims at stimulating and facilitating interdisciplinary research at the interface of philosophy, political theory, and economics. Job description The Faculty of Philosophy is looking for an Assistant Professor who pursues research in political theory, broadly conceived, and/or research at the intersection of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (where this can include, but is not limited to Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of the Social Sciences, Philosophy of Public Policy, Welfare Economics, Applied Ethics or related fields). The candidate will teach courses in the PPE Master's programme and other philosophy programmes that the faculty offers on both BA and MA level. The candidate will conduct research in PPE and play a stimulating role in the Centre for PPE, by contributing to its research profile and by forming interdisciplinary ties with other researchers working on PPE themes. The position includes research (40%) as well as teaching and administrative tasks (60%). Conditions of employment We offer assistant professors a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 3,637 (salary scale 11 Dutch Universities) to a maximum of € 5,656 (scale 12) gross per month for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. International candidates may qualify for a tax break on their income (the 30% facility) if the Dutch tax laws permit this in her/his case.
