Job description

Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy to begin September 1, 2019.

Major/Essential Functions: The annual teaching assignment will be 7 courses, one of which may be a one-month January Term experiential course determined by the candidate and appropriate to the candidate’s expertise. Primary teaching responsibilities will include will include Environmental Philosophy, Philosophies of Oppression and Privilege, as well as introductory and middle-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in philosophy preferred, but we will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status and who will complete their degree by September 1, 2019;

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching;

  • A commitment to undergraduate teaching; and

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience teaching courses in environmental philosophy, oppression and privilege, and ethical theory.
