Job description

The Department of Philosophy at The University of Scranton invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 1, 2020. Ph.D. in philosophy required by time of appointment. All candidates must indicate how they would help communicate and support the Jesuit and Catholic identity and mission of the University. Candidates must also have a strong commitment to, and competency in, teaching both core curriculum philosophy courses: Introduction to Philosophy and Ethics. The successful candidate will be grounded in the history of philosophy in their approach to both teaching and scholarship, and possess competency and interest in the philosophical foundations of the Catholic intellectual tradition. AOS: Open, though we are seeking a candidate whose research and teaching interests help complement the strengths of our department. Complementary specializations include Philosophical Anthropology, Early Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of the History of Science, and Analytic Philosophy of Religion. AOC: Open, with particular interest in medical humanities and/or technology ethics and/or environmental philosophy.
