Job description

The Austin College Department of Philosophy invites applications for a one year position beginning Fall 2020. A Ph.D. in Philosophy is preferred, but we will consider a candidates who will complete their Ph.D. by July 1, 2020. A strong commitment to (and demonstrated excellence in) teaching is essential, as is experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, along with and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential.  Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience teaching courses in social and political philosophy, health care justice/ethics, and ethical theory

Teaching duties will be 7 courses; 3 each in the fall and spring semesters, and one during the January Term (course to be determined by the candidate and appropriate to the candidate’s expertise). The desired area of specialization is social and political philosophy; the areas of competence are open. Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses social and political philosophy, including courses on the nature of justice, as well as justice in health care/public health, and courses appropriate for a newly created program in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
