Job description

The Philosophy Department at the University of Kansas is recruiting a pool of part- to full-time lecturers to teach a small number of undergraduate courses. Applications will be accepted at any time. The successful applicant must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins.


Job Duties: 

  1. Teach sections of introductory level courses in philosophy, logic, ethics or social and political philosophy and/or higher level courses depending on department needs.
  2. Spend 10 hours (25% appointment) or 20 hours (50% appointment) per week in classroom attendance, teaching, discussion, preparation, record-keeping and consultation with students; holding a minimum of 3 office hours per week.
  3. Administer and grade tests and assignments and turn in final grades.
  4. Adhere to department, college and university policies.

Required Qualifications:


Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:

  • Master's degree in philosophy.
  • At least one semester of college teaching experience in philosophy.  


Preferred Qualifications: 

Prior experience teaching philosophy courses at the University of Kansas.   


Salary Range:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience
