Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev seeks to appoint an outstanding philosopher to a tenure-track position, beginning October 2022.

Job Description and Requirements: The Department welcomes applications from all candidates, but is particularly seeking philosophers working in areas not currently covered by the faculty.  Priority will therefore be given to candidates with proven research and teaching records in one or more of the following fields: (i) Political Philosophy/Social Philosophy (ii) Philosophy of Social Science/Economics, (iii) Philosophy of Religion/ Medieval Philosophy, (iv) Phenomenology, (v) the Continental philosophical tradition, (vi) Philosophy of Mathematics; (vii) Logic and Philosophy of Logic (viii) Philosophy of Language.

The Department of Philosophy at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev sets the highest value on excellence in both teaching and research. We are a relatively small department and all members play an active role in the administration of the department and are expected to contribute to the governance of the university. Members of the department are expected to compete for external research funding.

Responsibilities include teaching required and elective courses in the candidate’s area of specialization at both the B.A. and M.A. levels and, possibly, general introductory courses in philosophy as well. Members are also expected to advise and mentor our undergraduate and also graduate students at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels.

Qualifications: The language of instruction and departmental and university governance is Hebrew. Accordingly, candidates will be expected to be capable of teaching and working in Hebrew.

The position is open to all candidates who hold a Ph.D. in philosophy. Candidates must have a degree in hand by the application date.
