Job description |
The Post The Lecturer in Philosophy will join a supportive, collaborative teaching and research culture within the Division of Law and Philosophy and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. We have a vibrant community of PhD/MPhil research students across the St Andrews – Stirling joint programme in philosophy (SASP), plus a substantial taught Masters programme within SASP, and a thriving interdisciplinary MSc in Human Rights and Diplomacy. Our undergraduate degree in Philosophy attracts both students wishing to study to Honours level, and students on other courses with an interest in our field. In REF2021 our overall profile was 81% 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent', with 100% of our research environment ranked 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent', and we were ranked joint 1st in Scotland for Philosophy impact. The successful candidate will: • Deliver core contributions to our growing interdisciplinary MSc in Human Rights and Diplomacy. This programme is taught in conjunction with the United Nations Institute of Training and Research. The successful candidate will be expected to co-convene this programme, offering a Philosophy lead alongside colleagues from Stirling Law School. We welcome candidates with a diversity of research and teaching interests who could contribute to this programme in differing ways. • Contribute research-led teaching to the successful established St Andrews - Stirling graduate programme in Philosophy (ranked 3rd in the UK by the Philosophical Gourmet), including teaching for the MLitt and PhD supervision. • Contribute teaching that will diversify our undergraduate programme in Philosophy single honours and joint honours including Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. • Develop research outputs, impact and grant applications that contribute to and complement Stirling Philosophy’s Legal, Moral, and Political Philosophy research cluster. This might include research that builds on established strengths, or that develops new areas of strength. Research specialisms of particular interest include: African, South Asian and/or East Asian philosophy, critical philosophy of race, normative and applied ethics, philosophy of development, philosophy of disability, philosophy of gender, philosophy of human rights, philosophy of law, political philosophy, social philosophy and related disciplines.
