Job description

The School of Philosophy at The Catholic University of America (http://philosophy.cua.edu/) seeks to fill a position in philosophy at the rank of either Assistant Professor, tenure-track, or Associate Professor, tenured, to begin in August 2017. Although the AOS and AOC are open, the School seeks someone with an interest in the history of philosophy whose research complements that of the current faculty. Of particular interest are applicants with an AOS in either philosophy of science or early-modern philosophy.

Duties include teaching 5 courses per year (3/2 per semester), undergraduate and graduate, active research, dissertation and thesis supervision, and the usual committee work. Candidates should have Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment, and possess competence in appropriate ancient and modern languages.

Applicants without tenure should include (i) a cover letter, (ii) a curriculum vitae, (iii) transcripts of all graduate work, (iv) a research dossier containing an outline of current and future research interests, and a writing sample, (v) three letters of reference, submitted separately by recommenders, and (vi) a one- to two-page personal statement indicating how the candidate, through his or her research, teaching, and service, would make a distinctive contribution to the University’s mission and to the vision of Catholic education outlined in the Apostolic Constitution on Catholic Universities, Ex Corde Ecclesiae (http://w2.vatican.va/content/john-paul-ii/en/apost_constitutions/documents/hf_jp-ii_apc_15081990_ex-corde-ecclesiae.html).
