Job description

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution with more than 3,000 on-campus students and over 80,000 online students, making us one of the fastest-growing universities in the country. Founded in 1932 as a traditional college, we now offer over 200 undergraduate and graduate online degree programs and certificates. In 2013, we created College for America, a groundbreaking education model widely praised for its competency-based approach. For over 80 years, we've been relentlessly reinventing higher education and have gained national recognition for our dedication to helping students transform their lives and the lives of those around them.

Our 300-acre campus sits on the banks of the Merrimack River and is just one hour from Boston and the mountains and seacoast of New Hampshire.

SNHU's traditional campus is seeking an Assistant Professor of Philosophy with a specialization in any core area of contemporary analytic philosophy (except ethics). This is a full-time position with excellent benefits, starting September 2017.

The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching undergraduates Introduction to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, Logic, and (occasionally) Ancient Philosophy, and will have an interest in developing and teaching thematic courses that appeal to non-majors. Examples include: Mind and Reality, Knowledge and Skepticism, Philosophy and Science Fiction, Philosophy of Science and Technology.

School of Arts and Science faculty maintain scholarly agendas, serve on school and university committees, and normally teach a seven-course load.

The deadline to apply is December 15, 2016.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy with a concentration (AOS) in any core area of analytic philosophy (except ethics) is required
  • Preferred areas of competence (AOC) include Metaphysics & Epistemology, Logic, and Ancient Philosophy
  • Candidates must have a strong record of success in teaching undergraduates
  • Please submit with your application: cover letter, CV/Resume, and statement of teaching philosophy
