Job description |
The Department of Politics and Philosophy at the University of Idaho (http://www.uidaho.edu/class/politics-and-philosophy) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in scientific ethics, broadly construed (including bioethics, research ethics, and other areas). The appointment is expected to begin mid-August 2017. Duties will include active scholarly research, normal committee service, undergraduate teaching and advising, limited graduate teaching, contributing to an interdisciplinary Bioethics minor, and participation as ethics advisor to an interdisciplinary NIH-sponsored Center for Modeling Complex Interactions. The standard teaching load is five courses per year (3/2 semester load). Teaching responsibilities will include courses in scientific ethics and other courses that contribute to the Philosophy Major and to the Political Science pre-law curriculum. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach one or more of the following: Environmental Philosophy, Epistemology, Feminist Philosophy, Metaphysics, Non-Western Philosophy, or Philosophy of Science (broadly construed). Salary is competitive and contingent on experience. The department is particularly interested in recruiting candidates who display the highest standards of excellence in research, teaching, and professional activity. Ability and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching is expected. Experience researching in a STEM discipline is a plus, as is interest in the normative aspects of scientific investigation. PhD in Philosophy or closely related field required prior to the appointment’s start date. The Department of Politics and Philosophy at the University of Idaho is committed to both academic excellence and diversity in faculty, staff, and student body.
