Job description |
Asst. Prof., tenure-track, beginning Fall 2017. Eight courses per year (4 per semester; typically 2-3 preps per semester), undergraduate level. Course load reduced to six for the first two years. Usual nonteaching duties. AOS: Philosophy of Science, broadly construed; AOC: Open; the department has teaching needs in cognitive science, metaphysics, logic, and epistemology. Preference will be given to candidates who show interest in and ability for engagement with students and colleagues in STEM fields, and who will make collegial contributions to an eclectic department reflecting a variety of philosophical backgrounds and commitments. Our department offers an undergraduate major in Philosophy, with optional emphasis in Religious Studies or Pre-Law. We also house the interdisciplinary certificate program in Peace and Conflict Studies and have a lively and wide-ranging Ethics Center. An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Philosophy is required by the time of appointment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and a commitment to scholarly activity. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
