Job description

The University of Pittsburgh's Department of Political Science invites applications for a one year postdoctoral fellowship in applied political theory. This position will be renewable for a second year and the department has a strong preference for candidates who may wish to stay two years.

An applied theorist does work on concrete political issues or problems using multiple methods including (but not limited to) textual analysis, content analysis, case studies, survey research, or experimental methods. Such work must have a clear theoretical foundation and purpose, but it must also be grounded in contemporary issues that are of interest to others, including affected populations, policy makers, and academics in other fields or sub-fields of political science.

The successful applicant will contribute substantively to one of the following thematic areas: 1) environmental politics; 2) political representation and accountability; or 3) human rights. Our department has vibrant research clusters in each of these three areas.

Depending on the specific interests of the successful candidate, there will be many opportunities to participate in regular seminar sessions hosted by, for example, the Center for the Study of American Politics and Society (CAPS), Global Studies Center, the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation, and the Global Politics Seminar (GPS).

The postdoctoral fellow will be matched with a faculty mentor, and will be expected to participate in a regular political theory reading group. He or she will teach one undergraduate course each semester, to be determined in in consultation with the political theory faculty and the Director of Undergraduate Studies. For more information about the fellowship and to apply, visit: http://www.as.pitt.edu/postdoctoral-fellowship-program .

The deadline to apply to the postdoctoral fellowship is February 17, 2017.
