Job description |
The Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences (CELLS, www.cells.uni-hannover.de) invites applications for a position of Research Assistant (PhD Candidate, Philosophy of Biology) (salary scale E-13 TV-L, 65% FTE, tenable for three years) to be appointed on February 1st, 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter. Responsibilities and duties: The Research Assistant will conduct research on the ontology of Genome Edited Organisms (GEOs) with a view of providing ontological foundations for legislation regarding GEOs. The research is expected to lead to a PhD dissertation, written under the supervision of Professor Thomas Reydon. The research will be conducted in the context of the project Legal Issues of Genome Editing in Plants and Animals, which is part of the cooperative project Ethical, Legal and Socio-Economic Aspects of Genome Editing in Agriculture (ELSA-GEA), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Employment conditions: To qualify for the position, applicants should hold a degree in philosophy, philosophy of science, or other relevant field, with special emphasis on the philosophy of the life sciences. Knowledge in the areas of ontology / formal ontologies, genome editing technologies, as well as the legal and regulatory aspects of genetic modification technologies is desirable.
