Job description |
Phillips Academy is a residential high school in Andover, Massachusetts. The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies seeks a full-time Instructor of Philosophy for an ongoing position beginning in the Fall of 2017. The department is looking for someone who can teach a broad range of courses, including Ethics, Logic, and Political Philosophy. In recent years, advanced courses in Existentialism, Epistemology, and PPE have been offered; successful candidates will be able to teach and refine these existing courses and will have the freedom to develop new ones. At least one degree in Philosophy is required and multiple degrees are strongly preferred. Our preference is for candidates with rigorous philosophical training who have teaching experience and a strong interest in exploring philosophical questions with high school students. As a boarding school, Phillips Academy asks its faculty to be available for students beyond the usual time commitments of a high school or college. As such, on-campus housing is provided free of charge for all residential faculty. Over the course of a career at Andover, faculty should expect to spend at least 8-10 years in a dorm, working as a residential and academic advisor to a group of students. Faculty are also asked to participate in the school’s athletics program for two seasons each year. Interested applications should email their resume along with a cover letter and two letters of reference to [email protected]. Applications will be reviewed by: Mr. Patrick J. Farrell, Dean of Faculty on the Edward E. Elson Foundation Specific questions about this job opening may be directed to Andrew Housiaux, Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, at [email protected]. |
