Job description |
The Research Training Group "Philosophy, Science, and the Sciences" advertises a full-time post-doctoral research position at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Starting date is October 1st, 2017, the position can be awarded for 18 months (until March 31st, 2019).The salary is set by the salary scale according to German WissZeitVG - E 13 TV-L HU. The applicant is expected to pursue research relating to the intersection and interaction of philosophy and mathematics in ancient Greek and/or Arabic contexts. We seek projects that address the mathematical method of analysis (Greek ἀνάλυσις, Arabic tahlîl) and its connection to philosophy. The holder of the position will be expected: (1) to pursue a significant original research project on the topic and (2) to work closely with graduate students in the Research Training Group, by providing general instruction and by providing supplemental advising on dissertation projects. We expect candidates to hold a PhD in a discipline relevant to the research project as well as to have a solid background and research experience in the relevant fields, including mastery of the relevant languages; and excellent English (speaking and writing). Knowledge of German is desirable.
