Tutorial Fellowship and Associate Professorship/Professorship in Philosophy

LINCOLN COLLEGE in association with the Faculty of Philosophy

Lincoln College and the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford, propose to make a joint appointment in Philosophy from 1 September 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter. The postholder will be a Tutorial Fellow of Lincoln College and an Associate Professor or Professor in the Faculty of Philosophy. The post is for a specialist in the field of the Philosophy of Social Science.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of internationally recognised scholarship and research, or evidence of potential to publish research of this quality, and will be required to provide a high standard of research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the supervision of research students. He or she will provide undergraduate tuition for Lincoln College in a range of subjects in Philosophy at both introductory and advanced undergraduate level. The Faculty of Philosophy expects the successful candidate to give undergraduate lectures, graduate classes and individual graduate supervision in the Philosophy of Social Science, and to conduct advanced research in this area. Applications are welcome from candidates working in any area of the Philosophy of Social Science and it is recognised that candidates who self-identify as specialists in this field may face in different research directions – for example, towards general philosophy of science, towards economics, or towards political theory.

By 1 September 2017, the successful candidate should normally have received the degree of PhD (or equivalent), or attained a comparable level of publications. The appointment will be a permanent post (after initial probation) and the combined college and University salary will be on a scale from £45,562 to £61,179 p.a., plus substantial benefits including free accommodation in college or a taxable and pensionable housing allowance of £9190 p.a. An additional salary payment of £2,626 p.a. would be payable upon award of title of full Professor.
