Job description

Washburn University's Philosophy Department invites applications for a Lecturer (on a renewable annual contract, not eligible for tenure) with an emphasis in ethics, beginning August 2017. We expect this to be a continuing appointment. Area of Specialization: ethics.  Area of Competence: logic. Although our department approaches philosophy from an analytic perspective, we welcome applications from candidates who have used this perspective to work on underrepresented areas of philosophy, such as philosophy of love and sex and/or feminist ethics. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about teaching Philosophy to undergraduates in general education courses at all levels, as well as to our Philosophy majors.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Philosophy (ABD considered).  University teaching experience, coursework, and/or research in ethics and logic.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Philosophy.  One year or more of full-time experience teaching philosophy at the university level. University teaching experience, coursework, or research in underrepresented areas of philosophy, such as philosophy of love and sex and/or feminist ethics.  Scholarly research in ethics.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach four courses (12 hours) per semester, normally including two sections of introduction to ethics, a section of introductory logic, and a fourth course as dictated by the needs of the Department and the interests and expertise of the candidate.   As Washburn University is committed to excellence in teaching, evidence of such excellence will be expected of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will also engage in service activities to the department.
