About The American University in Cairo: Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. The University also operates in its historic downtown facilities, offering cultural events, graduate classes, and continuing education. Student housing is available in New Cairo. Job Description: The American University in Cairo (AUC) is pleased to announce the continuation of its program of Core Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowships, intended for recent PhD graduates. At present, we are specifically seeking qualified applicants in the field of philosophy. Area of specialization: Open; area of concentration: History of Philosophy. The successful applicant will be appointed for a three-year term, as Core Fellow with the rank of visiting assistant professor, beginning in fall 2017. Primary teaching duty will be the required Core Curriculum course "Philosophical Thinking" - a center-piece of AUC's new Freshman Program, which is designed to introduce students to the liberal arts with an emphasis on outcomes-based teaching and learning. While at AUC, the successful candidate will also have opportunities to teach other courses in the Department of Philosophy, in his or her own area of research or interest, to apply for AUC’s generous travel (and other) faculty support grants, and of course to observe, work in and learn about one of the most fascinating countries in the world, Egypt. Requirements: Review of candidates will begin immediately; applications will be accepted until positions are filled; review of applications will begin March 7. Normally, applicants for Core Curriculum Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowships will have received their PhD degree within four calendar years of the date of application. In exceptional cases ABD's will be considered. Teaching experience is an asset, but not required.
