Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time, one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy to begin September 1, 2017. Minimum Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate in philosophy, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. The successful candidate will have both philosophy of race and feminist philosophy among their specializations and competencies. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and advising. Preferred Qualifications: The department has additional teaching needs in philosophy of science and environmental philosophy; additional expertise in these areas is preferred. We are interested in applicants who will complement our commitment to students and faculty from diverse cultural groups, and who will diversify the expertise and experiences represented in the department. Major/Essential Functions: The successful candidate will teach seven courses per year, one of which will be a January experiential course. Teaching responsibilities will include Philosophies of Oppression and Privilege. Other courses are negotiable, but will include an assortment of introductory and middle-level classes.
