TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: One year (non-tenure line) lecturer appointment beginning August 2017 QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in philosophy, outstanding ABD applicants will be considered. Area of competence in Classical Greek and Medieval Philosophy, with an ability to teach ethics and political philosophy. Candidates should have a broad background in the History of Philosophy and be able to teach introductory classes. RESPONSIBILITIES: Applicants should be committed to undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in philosophy to majors and non-majors, including courses that fulfill the core requirement for all students in Literature and Philosophy. Potential applicants should be committed to undergraduate teaching, and have an understanding of, and appreciation for, the liberal arts environment. The faculty at Central interact in an academically stimulating and congenial environment with a focus on student success. Graduates in philosophy have pursued advanced degrees in philosophy, theology, law, medicine and educational administration, as well as careers such as actuarial science, software design, and counseling psychology. Over 93% of Central graduates are employed, in graduate school, or completing meaningful service within one year of graduation. Founded in 1853, Central College of Pella, Iowa, is a private, residential four-year liberal arts college known for its academic rigor and strength in global experiential learning, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), sustainability education, athletics success and tradition, and leadership and service. Central continues to value its long-standing relationship with the Reformed Church in America that began in 1916. The college participates in NCAA Division III athletics and is a member of the Iowa Conference.
