Job description

The Department of Literature and Philosophy invites nominations and applications for the position of Limited-Term Instructor/Assistant Professor.

Georgia Southern University, classified as a doctoral/research institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, is a member of the University System of Georgia and is the largest, most comprehensive research institution in southeast Georgia. Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of Literature and Philosophy, the Limited-Term Instructor/Assistant Professor position will teach five courses per semester, including introductory level courses as well as one course per semester in the upper division. All limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic (9/10 month) year appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the possibility of reappointment should funding permit and based upon satisfactory performance. (All reappointments are made on a one year basis.) The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Limited-Term Assistant Professor: Earned doctorate in Philosophy or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Philosophy by August 1, 2017

Limited-Term Instructor: Earned master’s in Philosophy or closely related discipline with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Philosophy by August 1, 2017

Evidence of effective teaching

Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

Preferred Qualifications:

A.O.S. in Ancient Philosophy

Additional teaching competency in at least one of the following areas: Medieval Philosophy, Non-Western Philosophy, Philosophy of Race, and/or Critical Thinking
