The Department of Philosophy is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in the philosophy of mind and/or epistemology, broadly construed to include: epistemology, formal epistemology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience. The University invites applications from candidates who have an outstanding record of research or research potential in this area.

The Department of Philosophy is known for the high quality of its research and teaching and there are thriving interdisciplinary links with arts, social and natural sciences, law, medicine and medical humanities. In recent years the department has been highly successful in attracting grant income and hosts several active research projects and a number of postdoctoral researchers.

The undergraduate community is diverse with a number of joint honours programmes as well as a large single honours programme and eight successful and growing taught master’s programmes. We also have a large number of PhD students, creating a thriving community of students and researchers. A significant number of our recent research students have gone on to prestigious postdoctoral positions and permanent posts. Members of the department are active in various forms of outreach, public engagement, impact work, and widening participation.

The candidate will be expected to develop an internationally leading independent research programme as well as working in collaboration with other researchers in philosophy and the rest of the University.

The candidate is expected to work with colleagues to develop research and teaching across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum. With its highly collaborative and supportive environment, the department is looking to appoint a collegial and energetic person who will form relationships in teaching and research with colleagues, as well as contribute to the life of the department across a range of areas.
