We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated teacher/scholar who will welcome the opportunity to work closely with undergraduates and to promote the study of philosophy and health and Medical Humanities across the campus and around the world. Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. in Philosophy or related field by September 1, 2018. Demonstrated teaching excellence and scholarly promise are required. Interest in medical humanities is required. We encourage those with additional interests (e.g, in general humanities, philosophy, religion, history, art history, women’s and gender studies, fine arts, mathematics, natural or social science, or material culture) to apply. The department houses majors in Philosophy, Medical Humanities and Classical Studies and Humanities; interest and competency in history of medicine, ancient medicine, narrative medicine, medicine and the arts, medicine and social justice, and related areas is especially welcome. The department also houses an M.A. degree in philosophy; interest and competency in teaching graduate level courses in philosophy is required.

Teaching responsibilities include Ethics, Bioethics, Intro to Medical Humanities, Medical Humanities Capstone Seminar, other philosophy and humanities courses appropriate to expertise. Successful applicant will also serve on committees, and participate wholeheartedly not only in departmental activities (e.g., colloquium, Philosophy Club, events, etc.) but also in the life of the college as a whole. Note: All jobs at UTSA are considered security-sensitive. Applicants who are selected for interviews must be able to show proof that they will be eligible and qualified to work in the United States by time of hire.
